Jeff Greenway

Jeffrey E. Greenway

Superintendent

Jeff was raised in a Christian home, committing his life to Christ during his early teens. It was during these formative years that God began to place a call upon his life to enter full-time Christian service.  He is a graduate of Mount Union College (BA: Business), Asbury Theological Seminary (MDiv), and Wesley Theological Seminary (DMin: Evangelism).

Jeff was elected and consecrated as a bishop at the convening General Conference of the Global Methodist Church meeting in Costa Rica in September of 2024. He also serves as the conference superintendent of the Allegheny West Conference. Prior to becoming a bishop and conference superintendent, Jeff served as the lead pastor of the Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church near Columbus, OH, president of Asbury Theological Seminary, superintendent of the Pittsburgh East District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, and as pastor congregations in Butler and Erie, PA.  He also has extensive denominational experience having been appointed to serve on various denominational boards and being elected by his peers to attend and provide leadership in his denomination’s highest governing bodies.  He is widely seen as a leader of leaders by his peers.

Jeff’s approach to ministry is one of team building. He believes in the New Testament concept of the church being the Body of Christ, and that every member of the Body has a distinctive role and function in ministry. In the local church, his leadership has been committed to helping everyone become a believer in Jesus and finding his/her distinctive passion, gifts, and style so that they will be able to serve where God has intended for them to serve.  Jeff is never more excited than when new people come to a faith relationship with Jesus Christ and then discover and use their distinct gifts and graces in the ministry of the Body.

Jeff is also passionate about Biblical preaching and discipleship. He will take a particular passage of scripture and not only help the listener understand what it means, but also how to apply its truth into their personal lives.  Jeff is committed to leading the church to become all that God has intended and equipped it to be. He uses his spirituals gifts of leadership, administration, preaching, teaching, and wisdom to lay out a vision for our future.

On a personal note, Jeff is married to Beth, and together they are the parents of three adult children and have eight grandchildren. He has many interests and hobbies outside of his work. He is an avid Pittsburgh sports, Penn State football and Kentucky basketball fan.  He also enjoys exercise, gardening, reading, traveling, and fly-fishing.

The Greenways reside in Columbus, OH.

While serving at the Executive Director for New Church Development and Transformation in the Southwest Texas Conference, he led a successful conference capital campaign to fund new church starts.

Bishop Lowry was awarded the B’nai B’rith Award in Social Ethics by Perkins School of Theology (1976) and the Harry Denman Evangelism Award from the Central Texas Conference-Foundation for Evangelism (2015).  Churches under his leadership have received numerous awards and recognitions including the Habitat for Humanity Award (2004), the President’s Award from Huston-Tillotson University (2004), the Churchmanship Award from the San Antonio Community of Churches (2003) and the Moore Award Evangelism Award three times.  He was a delegate to the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1996, 2004, and 2008, as well as a delegate to the South-Central Jurisdictional Conference of United Methodist Church in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Upon retirement January 1, 2022, Bishop Lowry became the Bishop in Residence at United Theological Seminary where he currently serves.  He and his wife Jolynn moved to the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia to be near family.

Mike Lowry joined the Global Methodist Church at its inception as Bishop Emeritus.  He now serves on the Transitional Leadership Council of the Global Methodist Church.  He has a passion for Christ and for the transformation of the church as mission post of the advancing Kingdom of God.
